DeLand, Florida is one of six incorporated cities in West Volusia County. Two were developed within the past five years – DeBary and Deltona. Each of the others - DeLand, Orange City, Lake Helen and Pierson all date back more than 100 years. DeLand is a beautiful place to visit or to live, a mid-sized town with a population of approximately 21,000 residents (Metro DeLand has a population of approximately 60,000.) Situated along the beautiful St. Johns River, it is less than an hour from the pristine beaches at Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. DeLand is also less than an hour from Disney World, EPCOT Center, Universal Studios, Sea World and Silver Springs. It is less than two hours from the Kennedy Space Center, Cypress Gardens and Busch Gardens. Deland, Florida offers excellent schools – six elementary schools, two middle schools, several private schools and DeLand High School. It is home to Stetson University, which has an enrollment of 2,000 undergraduate students. The Florida Hospital DeLand has 156 beds; a 24-hour emergency room and a staff of 175 affiliated doctors and 760 supporting personnel. DeLand is a safe community and a great place to raise a family. The DeLand Police Department employs 65 sworn officers, 23 non-sworn and eight reserve officers, plus a support staff of 27. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Department has 820 personnel, including 470 sworn officers. DeLand was the first community in the country to receive the “Mainstreet” designation and has been voted “Best Mainstreet in Florida” from 1999 to 2003.

Real estate in DeLand is in high demand. As the county seat of one of the country’s fastest growing counties, many businesses are relocating to the area, as well as new residents. Combined with its natural beauty and close proximity to beaches and other attractions, this makes DeLand a very attractive real estate market. Located in what is called the “Sunbelt,” DeLand is a prosperous community with a booming job market and balmy, year round weather. Many DeLand homes sell immediately when placed on the market. The average home price in the city of DeLand is $109,779 and the median rental price is $455. This compares with an average home price of $118, 364 for Volusia County and $156,148 for the overall state of Florida.
